Things You Ought to Know

Our hair is our crown and glory. We try to take care of it as much as possible. Experts say that we take care of our hair and spend a lot of money on it just like we take care of our teeth and skin. Recent statistics shows that the hair care products industry has never been more profitable even in the face of an unstable economy. That is why it is no wonder that androgenetic Alopecia or hair loss is a serious problem not only of men but of women as well. There are even cases wherein children also suffer the same predicament.

Let us take a look at some of the common causes of hair loss. By knowing this, prevention may be possible for some cases thereby resulting to lesser cost and emotional anxiety.

Heredity

There is really nothing, even with the advent of modern medications and treatment, that anybody can do (for now) if this is the cause of hair loss. If a person, particularly male, inherits the necessary genes for loosing hair a little of this testosterone is formed by some of the hair roots into a by-product called Dihydrotestosterone. Dihydrotestosterone is actually the culprit behind hair loss. What happens is when this derivative is formed together with the sebum it will then enter the hair follicle (when a hair is shed) thereby creating a chemical reaction inside that will eventually lead to hair loss.

Ageing

From birth to your early thirties, ideally, your body produces the necessary protein your body needs in a daily basis. Protein is necessary for hair to grow normally and healthy. As you age, everything changes. Your metabolism slows down so as the other things that makes your body function well. The ideal hair cycle is about two to six years. After that, the follicles shed the hair, pass a resting phase, and new hair growth cycle begins. But this is not the case when you age. The hair growth cycle slows down thereby creating a big gap between the resting phase and the new hair growth phase. Plus, the amount that grows after the resting phase will be far greater than the amount of hair that your body will replenish.

Hormonal Imbalance and Poor Blood Flow

Hormonal imbalance is common among women especially during and after pregnancy and during menopause stage. These are the stages wherein great hormonal changes occur in a woman’s physiological and body functions. These hormonal changes affect the hair growth cycle and the normal number of shed hair is sometimes doubled. Treating the imbalance of hormones ideally will stop the excessive hair loss.

Stress, prolonged medication due to some serious illnesses and other nervous disorders are other causes of hair loss. It is best to consult your dermatologist if you are already experiencing excessive hair loss to get the best diagnosis and medical advice.
